The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Pretoria hosted a dignified celebration on 4 November to mark Azerbaijan’s Victory Day, an occasion commemorating the country’s triumph, unity and national pride. The event brought together diplomats, government officials, defence representatives and members of the Azerbaijani community in South Africa.
In his welcoming address, Dr Huseyin Rahimli, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Pretoria, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the guests for joining the celebration. He highlighted Victory Day as a symbol of national resilience, unity and the strength of the Azerbaijani people. Dr Rahimli emphasised that the day serves not only as a commemoration of Azerbaijan’s historic victory, but also as a reminder of the importance of peace, regional stability and international cooperation. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, cultural and defence relations with South Africa and other nations across the African continent.
Brigadier General Dion de Vos, Director of Defence Foreign Relations in South Africa, also addressed the gathering, acknowledging the enduring friendship and growing cooperation between South Africa and Azerbaijan. He praised the significance of the day as an opportunity to honour those who served with courage and dedication, while promoting continued dialogue and understanding between the two countries.
The reception offered a warm atmosphere for exchange among diplomats and guests, accompanied by a photo display of the events leading up to and around Victory Day. The event underscored shared values of peace, respect and partnership, reflecting the spirit of Victory Day and the Embassy’s role in fostering stronger bilateral relations.
In celebrating this day, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Pretoria not only honoured its nation’s achievements, but also reaffirmed its dedication to building bridges of friendship and collaboration around the world.
