A spirit of elegance and cultural exchange filled the air as Belinda van Binsbergen, spouse of the CEO of BMW South Africa and newly appointed Honorary Member of IDSA, graciously hosted the March Coffee Morning at the BMW Headquarters in Midrand.
The event brought together members of the diplomatic community for a morning that seamlessly blended connection, creativity and conversation. Set against the backdrop of one of South Africa’s most innovative corporate campuses, guests were immersed in an environment where art and industry intersect.
For over five decades, the BMW Group has championed global partnerships with leading cultural institutions spanning modern and contemporary art, music, architecture and design. In South Africa, this commitment continues to resonate strongly. BMW South Africa has contributed significantly to the local economy, creating more than 95,500 jobs over the past 53 years, while also investing in the country’s vibrant cultural landscape.
These efforts are reflected in collaborations with celebrated South African artist Esther Mahlangu, the internationally acclaimed Zeitz MOCAA, and initiatives such as BMW Young Collectors Co., in partnership with FNB Art Joburg, all of which continue to elevate African creativity on the global stage.
Guests were treated to a curated art tour of the BMW Midrand Campus, now regarded as a living gallery where creativity meets innovation. The tour showcased an inspiring collection of installations, including works by emerging artists from the University of the Witwatersrand School of Arts, a testament to BMW’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of South African talent.
The morning was further distinguished by the presence of Ronald Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, and Alvin Botes, who attended alongside their spouses. Their participation underscored the growing importance of cultural diplomacy as a bridge between nations and communities.
In her closing remarks, IDSA President Karem Ruiz de Livieres expressed heartfelt appreciation to the diplomatic community for their continued engagement and extended sincere thanks to BMW for hosting such a memorable and inspiring gathering.
The March Coffee Morning stood as a celebration not only of art and innovation, but of the enduring power of collaboration, where culture, diplomacy and creativity come together to shape meaningful connections.
