The 9th annual Mandela Remembrance Walk and run was held on Sunday 11 December at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
The sold out event saw participants taking part in the 5km,10km and 21km walk / run. The proceeds from the event go towards the work of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Gauteng Premier, Hon Panyaza Lesufi opened up the wreath laying ceremony. Followed by MEC Morakane Mosupyoe, GSACR, Ndileka Mandela, Cllr Kingsley Wakellin COT executive Mayor, and Sello Hatang CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
This was followed by the lighting of the candles.
Participants enjoyed their afternoon with live entertainment on the lawns of the Union Buildings.
As Nelson Mandela once said , “sport has the power to change the world and unite people in a way that little else does”.
