International Mother Language Day was enjoyed at the Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg, Parkwood on Saturday 11 February. It was a day of live music, games, food, face painting, balloon twisting, storytelling and more.

One of this year’s highlights was the discussion with Alex Rawlings who speaks 15 languages fluently and is currently learning the 11 official languages of South Africa. A true polygot, the talk gave great insights and tips on language. A range of live music performances which included Sowetan quartet Jazz Cats SA. Their tasteful and soulful afro-jazz has seen them tour around South Africa.
There were various countries such as France, Italy , Ukraine and African language schools exhibiting their language courses. Some of the games included phrases being said in a variety of languages.

The event included various food vendors selling everything from Mexican , Italian and some mouth watering German delicacies.
