Yunus Emre Institute in Johannesburg, with the support of the Turkish Embassy, hosted an event for International Women’s Day at their facility.
H.E Ayşegül Kandaş thanked members of the Diplomatic Corp, distinguished guests, and friends of Turkey for their participation and attendance.
The afternoon included a variety of activities, such as a marimba band that had guests feeling jovial and dancing. Various artists performed for the audience, ranging from an acapella group to a Peruvian artist and Idols finalist Monde Msutwana. Monde, who grew up in Witbank and matriculated from Greendale in 2000, is a singer, songwriter, and musician whose soulful voice has been heard on Idols throughout Season 8 in 2012. He went against all odds to beat thousands of contestants and secured the top 3 spot.
Director of the Institute, Mr Aziz Yiğit, addressed the audience and congratulated the women on their day. He also encouraged guests to enjoy the food and taste the famous Turkish dessert künefe.
Various speakers took to the podium and gave the women words of encouragement and shared stories of their personal journeys.
Happy International Women’s Day!
