The Dominican Republic proudly marked its 182nd Independence Day at a warm and elegant reception hosted by Erika Álvarez Rodríguez, who welcomed members of the diplomatic corps and friends of the Dominican Republic to her residence in Johannesburg.
The celebration brought together distinguished guests from across government, business and civil society, reflecting the spirit of unity and friendship that defines the Caribbean nation’s national day. Representing the Government of South Africa was Buti Kgwaridi Manamela, Minister of Higher Education and Training, whose presence underscored the growing ties between the two countries.
In her address, Ambassador Álvarez Rodríguez highlighted the significance of independence as a moment of national pride and reflection. She spoke of the Dominican Republic’s journey over 182 years, a story shaped by resilience, cultural richness and a steadfast commitment to democracy and development.
