The Office of Tibet in Pretoria commemorated the 91st Birthday Anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama with a heartfelt celebration that honoured a lifetime devoted to peace, compassion, non-violence, interfaith harmony and the promotion of universal human values.
Held at the Office of Tibet in Centurion, the event brought together members of the diplomatic community, supporters and friends of Tibet to celebrate the enduring legacy of one of the world’s most respected spiritual leaders.
The programme opened with a moving prayer led by Khenpo Jamyang Gonpo la, setting a reflective and peaceful tone for the occasion. Guests were then welcomed by Representative Dhundup Gyalpo la, who highlighted the profound influence His Holiness has had on millions of people across the globe through his teachings of compassion, forgiveness and mutual understanding.
In his address, Representative Gyalpo reflected on the Dalai Lama’s extraordinary journey as a global ambassador for peace and humanity. He spoke of His Holiness’s humility, wisdom and unwavering commitment to resolving conflict through dialogue rather than violence, values that continue to resonate in an increasingly complex world.
He encouraged those in attendance to celebrate not only the Dalai Lama’s 91st birthday but also the remarkable legacy he has built over decades of advocating for compassion, human dignity and harmony among people of all faiths and cultures. He concluded by wishing His Holiness continued good health, happiness and many more years of inspiring humanity to embrace kindness, patience and peace.
The celebration also featured an address by the Honourable Lauren Ladenson, Deputy Political Counsellor at the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, who reflected on the Dalai Lama’s enduring message of empathy, universal responsibility and the importance of placing compassion at the centre of global leadership. She noted that his teachings continue to inspire people from all walks of life, transcending national, cultural and religious boundaries.
Throughout the celebration, guests reflected on the timeless relevance of the Dalai Lama’s message in a world facing growing challenges. His lifelong commitment to non-violence, dialogue and respect for all people continues to serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder that lasting peace begins with compassion and understanding.
The organisers also extended sincere appreciation to Prince Thulani Gatsha Mrhetjha for his invaluable assistance in coordinating the celebration and helping ensure the event’s success.
