The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in South Africa celebrated the 74th anniversary of the July 23 Revolution, marking Egypt’s National Day with an elegant garden reception at Egypt House in Pretoria.
Hosted by His Excellency Ambassador Ahmad Sharief, the event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, government representatives, business leaders and invited guests to celebrate Egypt’s national journey and the longstanding friendship between Egypt and South Africa.
Addressing guests, Ambassador Sharief reflected on the significance of the July 23 Revolution, describing it as a defining moment in Egypt’s modern history that placed freedom, social justice, equality and human dignity at the heart of the nation’s development.
He highlighted the strong historical ties between Egypt and South Africa, noting that both countries share a proud legacy of liberation and continue to work closely in promoting peace, stability and economic growth across the African continent.
Looking towards the future, the Ambassador outlined opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation through initiatives including the Egypt-South Africa Business Council, the Cairo-Cape Town Corridor and the upcoming Alamein Africa Forum. These initiatives aim to strengthen trade and investment, encourage greater business engagement and support regional economic integration.
Representing the South African Government, Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development Mzwanele Nyhontso congratulated Egypt on its National Day and reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to deepening relations between the two nations.
He emphasised the importance of increasing bilateral trade and investment while advancing the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area, which presents significant opportunities to strengthen intra-African commerce and unlock greater economic potential across the continent.
Beyond the formal proceedings, guests experienced the warmth of Egyptian hospitality while enjoying authentic cuisine in the beautifully landscaped gardens of Egypt House.
