The Inaugural Philippine Film Festival, held at the Embassy of the Philippines from 26 to 29 November 2024, was attended by numerous guests. One of the standout films featured was Ang Babae sa Likod ng Mambabatok (The Woman Behind the Tattoo Artist), a 2012 documentary.

The film delves into the life of Fang Od, a living legend and the last traditional tattoo artist of the Kalinga tribe in the northern Philippines. At the time of the film’s production, Fang Od was 92 years old and is now 107 years old. The documentary explores her legacy and artistry, shedding light on her unique cultural role.

The film is layered in its storytelling: the first layer highlights Fang Od’s perspective as a tattoo artist, while the second focuses on her colourful life as a woman who defied conventions.
