The official observance of the International Day of Reflection on the 100-day war that occurred in Rwanda in 1994 was hosted in collaboration with the United Nations and the High Commission of Rwanda in Pretoria.
The Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda saw over one million people lose their lives.
The year 2025 marks 31 years since this terrible genocide occurred.
Kwibuka means “to remember”, and this year’s theme is:
Remember. Unite. Renew.
His Excellency Emmanuel Hategeka, Rwanda’s High Commissioner, closed his speech with the following words:
“We cannot turn the clock back, nor can we undo the harm of the past, but we have the power and determination to ensure that what happened NEVER happens again.”
From the ashes of Rwanda’s darkest hours, they rose.
