On the occasion of the 181st anniversary of national independence on 27 February, Ambassador Erika Álvarez Rodríguez and the staff of the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in South Africa hosted a reception celebrating the country’s rich cultural, historical, and economic heritage.
The event featured a vibrant showcase of Dominican Carnival, including the iconic “Diablos Cojuelos” and other folkloric performances in traditional attire, filling the atmosphere with colour and tradition. Guests enjoyed a celebratory toast with exquisite Dominican rums, a tasting of high-quality cigars, and a variety of traditional dishes, highlighting the excellence of the nation’s culinary offerings.
In addition, videos were presented offering key insights into the Dominican Republic’s economic and tourism development, giving attendees a comprehensive view of the country’s history, achievements, and opportunities for cooperation.
