On 25 April 2025, His Excellency Ambassador James Bwana, High Commissioner of Tanzania to South Africa, was joined by the Honourable David Mahlobo (MP), Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation of the Republic of South Africa, in leading ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of international organisations accredited to South Africa, Tanzanian diaspora community leaders, and other guests in celebrating the 61st anniversary of the United Republic of Tanzania. The event was held at the Pretoria Country Club.
In his address, H.E. Ambassador Bwana reiterated the longstanding friendship between Tanzania and South Africa, forged during the liberation struggles. He commended the continued progress made in strengthening people-to-people connections, as well as the growth of economic and social ties between the two nations.
Speaking on behalf of the South African Government, Hon. Mahlobo expressed deep appreciation for Tanzania’s role in the liberation of South Africa and other frontline states. He highlighted the strong progress achieved in bilateral and economic relations between the two countries and called for continued diplomatic engagement. He also extended warm wishes to H.E. Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, and H.E. Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, on the celebration of the Union’s 61st anniversary.
Guests were treated to cultural performances by schoolchildren and a singer from Tanzania. A video presentation showcased the country’s growth, industrial development, and tourism opportunities — offering attendees a glimpse into Tanzania’s dynamic future.
