As part of World Breakfast Day, celebrated annually by UNESCO on the first Sunday of June, a traditional Turkish breakfast was hosted at the residence of the Turkish Ambassador, H.E. Mrs Nilvana Yıldırımgeç.
Guests were treated to a meticulously curated spread that included Turkish tea, menemen, simit, Turkish coffee, a variety of cheeses, baklava, and more — offering a rich and authentic taste of Türkiye’s beloved breakfast culture.
The tradition behind World Breakfast Day aims to share Türkiye’s cherished breakfast rituals with a global audience. The city of Van, located in eastern Türkiye, is considered the country’s breakfast capital, renowned for its diversity of dishes and bold, distinctive flavours. In 2014, Van broke the world record for the most crowded breakfast table, with the participation of 51,793 people. Breakfast is so deeply rooted in the culture of Van that a backstreet running parallel to the main boulevard is unofficially known as “Breakfast Makers Street.”
Ambassador Yıldırımgeç extended her warm thanks to friends and colleagues for joining the celebration, which highlighted the joy of shared meals and cultural exchange.
Undoubtedly, Turkish breakfast remains one of the country’s finest and most enduring culinary rituals.
