A vibrant evening unfolded on 25 November at The Pretoria Country Club as the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman marked Oman’s National Day in South Africa.
H.E. Ambassador Ali Said Al Kathiri, Head of Mission, warmly welcomed esteemed guests in a celebration of friendship, culture and partnership between Oman and South Africa.
Representing the South African government, Minister of Human Settlements Thembisile Simelane honoured the occasion with her presence, highlighting the growing ties between the two nations.
Sustainability and Vision for 2040 outlined Oman’s commitment to the environment and took centre stage, with special recognition of its ambitious National Initiative to Plant 10 Million Trees. Since launching in 2020, the initiative has planted more than 3.5 million mangrove seeds, alongside the widespread distribution of millions of wild tree seeds, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
On the front of strengthening economic bridges, trade relations continue to rise:
• In 2023, Oman exported 1.44 billion US dollars to South Africa, while South Africa exported 58.29 million US dollars to Oman.
• By 2024, South Africa’s imports from Oman reached 2.97 billion US dollars, driven mainly by refined petroleum.
The celebration underscored not only cultural unity but also the growing economic and environmental partnerships shaping the future of Oman and South Africa relations.
