The spirit of celebration and international camaraderie was on full display in Pretoria as the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands hosted a vibrant King’s Day reception at the Ambassador’s Residence. The event brought together members of the Diplomatic Corps, government representatives and distinguished guests for an afternoon that reflected both tradition and modern partnership.
Her Excellency Joanne Doornewaard, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to South Africa, graciously welcomed attendees, setting a warm and inclusive tone for the occasion. The gathering served as a meaningful platform to strengthen diplomatic ties while celebrating a day of national pride for the Netherlands.
The event was honoured by the presence of Stella Tembisa Ndabeni Abrahams, South Africa’s Minister of Small Business Development, who attended as Guest of Honour. Her presence underscored the strong and growing relationship between South Africa and the Netherlands, particularly in areas of economic cooperation and entrepreneurship.
King’s Day, known in Dutch as Koningsdag, is a national public holiday in the Netherlands, marking the birthday of His Majesty King Willem Alexander. Celebrated annually on 27 April, the day is synonymous with festive gatherings, cultural expression and a shared sense of unity across the Dutch nation and its global community.
In Pretoria, the occasion was no different. Guests enjoyed a lively and elegant atmosphere, where diplomacy met celebration and conversations flowed as freely as the spirit of friendship.
