The first quarter-final round of the second edition of the Oman Golf Trophy concluded on 22 October 2024 at Pretoria Country Club. The second round of playoffs is scheduled for November, leading up to the finals in Muscat from 8–12 December 2024.

Organised by Oman’s Foreign Ministry in collaboration with various entities, the Oman Golf Trophy builds on the success of its inaugural event in 2022, held in Italy. This diplomatic initiative is a partnership between the public and private sectors, forming part of Oman’s economic and tourism diplomacy programme. The tournament promotes investment and tourism opportunities, positioning Oman as a leading destination for sports tourism.

This year’s tournament includes 80 qualifying rounds across seven countries from April to October 2024, attracting 7,400 participants vying for a place in the final. The championship is set to attract a diverse audience of local and international golf enthusiasts, further elevating Oman’s reputation as a premier destination for sports tourism.

The final will be held at the prestigious Al Mouj Golf Course in Muscat, featuring 140 players and their supporters. The event will also host notable economic and media figures from participating nations, adding an extra layer of prestige to the championship.

The South African rounds teed off with the attendance of H.E. Mr Ali Said Alkathiri, Head of Oman’s Mission in Pretoria. At the Prize Giving Gala Dinner, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Eritrea’s Ambassador to South Africa, H.E. Ambassador Salih Omar Abdu, congratulated the winners.

The 1st Place Men’s Category Winner was Mr Gerald Schweighofer, spouse of the Austrian Ambassador to South Africa, while the 1st Place Women’s Category Winner was Ms Meisie Maponyane. Both winners were awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to the Oman Golf Trophy Final in Muscat, scheduled from 8–12 December 2024.
