This international event took place at Società Dante Alighieri in Houghton and featured workshops, talks, and cultural performances.

Language is identity, culture, and connection.

The event was made possible through a collaborative partnership between the Goethe-Institut and Società Dante Alighieri, along with other esteemed institutions including the Consolato Generale d’Italia Johannesburg, Alliance Française Johannesburg, Korean Cultural Center, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst e.V., Consulat Général de France à Johannesburg, and Camões Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua Portugal.

An interesting insight from the Portuguese institute revealed that Portuguese is the fourth most spoken language in the world, spoken across four continents and recognised as an official language in five countries. Projections indicate that there will be approximately 388 million Portuguese speakers by 2050.

A variety of food stalls gave visitors the opportunity to enjoy traditional dishes from the countries represented, adding a delicious touch to the cultural experience.

This vibrant and enriching day gave everyone a chance to celebrate their love for languages and the diversity they represent.
