The Embassy of Tunisia in South Africa hosted a warm farewell reception at the Ambassador’s Residence to honour Deputy Head of Mission Ms Hasna Tizaoui Dkhillali, whose diplomatic service has left a lasting impact on relations between Tunisia and South Africa.
Hosted by H.E. Ambassador Karima Bardaoui, the afternoon celebrated not only Ms Dkhillali’s remarkable contribution, but also the successful introduction of authentic Tunisian extra virgin olive oil to the South African market. The initiative reflects Tunisia’s rich agricultural heritage and growing efforts to strengthen trade and economic ties between the two countries.
In her address, Ambassador Bardaoui paid tribute to Ms Dkhillali’s professionalism, dedication and perseverance, describing her as one of the driving forces behind making Tunisian olive oil available to South African consumers. She also acknowledged embassy colleagues who are concluding their assignments, thanking them for their service and commitment throughout their time in South Africa.
In an emotional farewell address, Ms Dkhillali reflected on her unforgettable journey in South Africa, saying that she chose to build relationships by “knocking on the doors of people’s hearts” and was rewarded with warmth, friendship and unwavering support.
She highlighted the Embassy’s focus on strengthening scientific diplomacy, promoting women’s empowerment and introducing Tunisian olive oil to the South African market. These achievements, she noted, were made possible through close collaboration with the many partners and friends who supported the Embassy’s initiatives.
Ms Dkhillali also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ambassador Bardaoui, whom she described as an inspiring leader, mentor and role model for women in diplomacy. Her words reflected the close professional relationship they developed and the shared commitment that has characterised their work in strengthening Tunisia’s presence and partnerships in South Africa.
The introduction of Tunisian extra virgin olive oil added another meaningful dimension to the occasion. As one of Tunisia’s most celebrated products and an important part of the country’s cultural and agricultural identity, its growing presence in South Africa represents an opportunity to introduce more consumers to Tunisian excellence while creating new avenues for bilateral trade.
